How to Care for Down Boots

To clean down boots, wipe the outside with a damp cloth and let them dry at room temperature. Do not put them in the washing machine or wash them by hand, because soaking the boot can ruin the shape of the down fill. Keep them away from radiators and direct sunlight, skip bleach and other harsh chemicals, and store them in a dry place.

How do I clean down boots?

Most marks come off with a soft, damp cloth.

  • Brush off loose dirt or snow first.
  • Wipe the shell gently with a cloth dampened in plain water.
  • Work on small areas and avoid soaking the fabric.
  • Let the boots dry fully before you wear or store them.

Can I put down boots in the washing machine?

No. Do not machine wash or hand wash your boots. The goose down is quilted into the boot, and a full wash can clump the fill and change its shape. Once the down loses its shape, it holds less air and the boot loses warmth. Spot cleaning with a damp cloth is the safe way to keep them clean.

How do I dry down boots?

Let them dry at room temperature. Do not set them on a radiator or heater, and keep them out of direct sunlight. Heat can loosen the adhesives that hold the boot together. Drying takes longer this way, but it keeps the boot intact.

What should I avoid?

  • Machine washing or hand washing
  • Radiators, heaters and direct sunlight
  • Bleach and similar chemicals
  • Storing the boots in a damp place

How should I store down boots in the off-season?

Make sure the boots are clean and completely dry, then store them somewhere dry and away from heat. A damp closet, basement or garage is not a good place for them. More care tips for every Flufié product are on our product care page.

Does the same care apply to bags and scarves?

Our bags and scarves are filled with microgel, not goose down, but the same basic approach is a safe one: wipe gently, dry at room temperature, and keep them away from heat and harsh chemicals. Always check the care notes on the product page.
